About
“ARDD 2009 brought together the biggest names on the global agriculture scene.”
Agriculture and Rural Development Day is a major one-day event that brings together several hundred policy makers, farmers, scientists and development experts to discuss the urgent need for rural people in developing countries to play a greater role and receive stronger support in climate change adaptation and mitigation. Organized by a consortium of major actors in agriculture and rural development, the event is being held in parallel with the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC).
Agriculture and Rural Development Day 2009 and 2010 were held in Copenhagen and Cancún, respectively, alongside COPs 15 and 16. These events consolidated a network of organizations around the idea that, while agriculture is part of the climate change problem, it is also essential for finding solutions. COP 17 represents a new opportunity to convey this idea more powerfully, with the aim of ensuring that climate-smart agriculture is incorporated into a post-2012 climate change agreement.
